No, Mother Nurture products are simply a way for moms to treat themselves while providing an additional source of essential nutrients for moms and babies.
Mother Nurture products are not a substitute for prenatal vitamins or a balanced diet. They are simply a great solution for moms who want to treat themselves while doing something good for their baby.
Mother Nurture products are developed to work in harmony with a prenatal vitamin. Our products provide low levels of key nutrients to supplement your overall daily intake whether you are taking a prenatal vitamin or not. Think of Mother Nurture products as an additional source of key nutrients, to include with your prenatal vitamin and a balanced diet. For moms who are unable to take a prenatal vitamin, Mother Nurture products provide an additional source of key nutrients to supplement a balanced diet.
Typically, yes. However, it is always important to discuss the use of all medications, vitamins, and supplements with your healthcare provider.
DV is the amount of a nutrient the body needs based on the recommended calorie diet. Following FDA guidelines, Mother Nurture adjusts the % DV of essential nutrients in its products to reflect the appropriate dietary needs of expectant and breastfeeding moms.
No, Mother Nurture products are intended to be an additional source of essential nutrients for moms and babies. They are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition or disease that can occur in pregnant or lactating moms. However, research has indicated that moms who remain hydrated and consume a balanced diet that includes sources of B12 may feel better throughout their pregnancy. (1)
Definitely! The essential nutrients in Mother Nurture products are beneficial to lactating mothers who are continuing to support the development of their babies after birth. Plus, our deliciously indulgent products are a great way for moms to continue to hydrate and treat themselves.

No. Mother Nurture products are designed with the nutritional requirements of adults in mind.
We know that many moms struggle with nausea during pregnancy or become sensitive to strong flavors. Based on feedback from the hundreds of pregnant moms who helped during their development, Mother Nurture Enhanced Waters have been formulated to taste light and refreshing to most moms.
Again, because we know that moms struggle with nausea during pregnancy, our Enhanced Truffles have been designed to be a small treat. However, we have learned from all the moms that have helped developed the delicious taste of our truffles, that every mom is different – and each day of pregnancy can be different. So, we’ve developed the truffles to allow you to choose how to treat yourself. You can eat just one to satiate that craving for a little something sweet – or choose to eat a couple for a more decadent experience.
As with most foods, temperature of consumption is a personal preference. Our enhanced waters are shelf stable, but best served chilled or over ice. Once opened, our waters should be kept refrigerated and consumed within 48 hours. Our chocolate truffles are also shelf stable. They are richly creamy when eaten at room temperature and decadently melt in your mouth when chilled.
Mother Nurture Enhanced Waters and Truffles both have a shelf life of nine months from the date they are produced. To be sure you can be confident of their freshness, however, every Mother Nurture product has a “best by” consumption date printed right on the package.
As with most foods, it is not advisable to consume Mother Nurture products after the “best by” date.
All of our products are manufactured in the United States – in New Jersey to be exact – where we can keep a close eye on the manufacturing process and standards of quality.
DHA is a “good” type of fat called a polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acid. Omega-3s are a family of polyunsaturated fatty acids essential to health and human development. DHA supports development of the brain, eyes, and central nervous system, which is why it is uniquely important for pregnant and lactating women. Experts recommend that moms take in 350 – 450 mg of DHA daily. Unfortunately, these DHA fatty acids are not produced by the human body and therefore must be obtained from diet or supplementation. (2) We include DHA in Mother Nurture Truffles to provide moms and their babies with an easy additional source of this critical nutrient.
Vitamin B12, also called cobalamin, is a water-soluble vitamin that has a key role in the normal functioning of the brain and nervous system, the formation of red blood cells, and it helps make DNA, the genetic material in all of our cells. It is one of eight B vitamins. The World Health Organization has deemed B12 to be as important as folic acid in the development of babies. (3) The National Institutes of Health has recommended that pregnant and nursing moms consume 2.8 micrograms (mcg) of B12 each day. We include B12 in Mother Nurture Enhanced Waters so moms and their babies can benefit from an additional source of this critical nutrient.
Folic acid is one of the B vitamins. It helps our bodies produce and maintain new cells. Critical to developing babies, it is known to help prevent serious birth defects of the spinal cord and of the brain known as neural tube defects (NTDs). The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends that pregnant women follow current dietary guidelines by getting at least 600 – 800 mcg of folic acid from all sources every day to help prevent major birth defects of the baby’s brain and spine. (4) Mother Nurture has included folic acid in all of its products because it can be hard to get enough of this important nutrient from food alone.
Choline is a water-soluble macronutrient related to other vitamins, like those in the B vitamin family. It is essential to the healthy development of a baby’s brain and spinal cord. Extra choline has been been shown to enhance the development and function of the placenta. Choline also supports mom’s liver and nerve function, muscle movement, and metabolism during pregnancy and lactation. (2) (5) Pregnant and breastfeeding moms are recommended to take in 450 – 550 mg of choline daily. We have enhanced Mother Nurture Waters with choline to help moms supplement their daily intake of this critical nutrient.
Calcium is a nutrient needed to build strong teeth and bones in developing babies. It also allows blood to clot, muscles and nerves to function properly, and the heart to beat normally. A growing baby needs a considerable amount of calcium to develop. If Mom does not consume enough calcium to sustain the needs of her developing baby, the body will take calcium from Mom’s bones (decreasing Mom’s bone mass and increasing her risk for osteoporosis). The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends that pregnant and lactating women over 18 get the US recommended daily allowance (USRDA) of at least 1,000 mg of calcium from all sources every day. (4) (6) Mother Nurture has included calcium in all of its products so moms and their babies can benefit from an additional source of this critical nutrient.
Vitamin D is an essential nutrient that works with calcium to help a baby’s bones and teeth develop as well assisting in the development of healthy skin and eyesight. Vitamin D has other roles in the body, including modulation of cell growth, neuromuscular and immune function, and reduction of inflammation. The FDA recommends that pregnant and lactating women get 15 mcg of calcium each day. (2) Mother Nurture Truffles have Vitamin D in the ganache to help moms and their babies get more of their daily value of this important nutrient.
Mother Nurture products rely on only natural, pure cane sugar and deliciously ripe monk fruit to create their lightly sweet taste.
The only sweeteners used in Mother Nurture products are pure cane sugar and monk fruit so they don’t have that funny aftertaste that you find in some beverages!
Monk fruit is a small sub-tropical melon that has been cultivated in the remote mountains of Southern China for centuries. According to legend, monk fruit is named after the Buddhist monks who first cultivated the fruit nearly 800 years ago. The unique low-calorie sweetness of monk fruit comes from naturally occurring antioxidants found in the fruit that have a delicious, sweet taste, without the high calories of sugar.

It is always important to consume enough fluids during pregnancy. Water is needed to flush out toxins, aid in digestion, and ensure our bodies absorb the essential nutrients from the foods we eat – all functions that become even more important during pregnancy. Not having enough to drink can impact both Mom and her developing baby. The Food and Nutrition Board at the Institute of Medicine recommends that pregnant women drink a minimum of 101 ounces of fluid daily and lactating women should drink 128 ounces of fluid daily. (7) This is especially true in warmer weather, at higher altitudes, and during or after exercise.
At Mother Nurture we believe in moderation, but when it comes to chocolate we know that moderation can be tough! The good news is that you can skip the guilt and indulge in chocolate based on recent news on the health benefits of chocolate. Research presented at the 2016 Pregnancy Meeting of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine in Atlanta, GA indicated that eating 30 grams of chocolate a day during pregnancy may benefit placental health as well as fetal growth and development. (8) While more research is needed, additional studies have indicated that there may even be a relationship between eating a moderate amount of chocolate and lowering the risk of preeclampsia, regulating blood pressure, boosting immunity, and enhancing mood or reducing stress.
